Perfectly Purple 💐💜

The Palace Gardens are looking magnificent in the summer sunshine with different hues of purple lining the Archbishop's Palace Ruins.

@southwellcathedralgardener tells me that June is the purple flower month in the garden. Make sure you come and visit before the month ends!

#didyouknow that we have new interpretation and plants installed as part of the #leavesofsouthwell project? All areas of the garden (including newly opened Paddock from the 1st July) are free and open for you to explore!

The Palace Garden will be home to our multitude of summer outdoor theatre and music events. To find out more, visit our website.

Yesterday we had our Choral Outreach Celebration d

Yesterday we had our Choral Outreach Celebration day 🎶 We had such a fun day celebrating the beautiful #LeavesofSouthwell singing songs about plants, nature and our 13th century carvings!

We had two local schools visit the Minster and participate in singing workshops, crafts and storytelling in the morning. And ended the wonderful day with a fabulous concert with all the children performing and singing their hearts out. We even got to debut the ‘These are our Leaves’ song created as part of the Leaves of Southwell Project.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this day possible.

The weekend saw lots of exciting events including the exterior of the Minster illuminated with lots of images which really wowed everyone who attended! We also had our #thebigjubileelunch on Sunday afternoon - the weather didn’t stop the local community gathering together! Thanks to @essentiallybrass for an incredible performance which really added to the atmosphere and @southwellanddistrictlions for their helps and games!

Yesterday we had our Rogation Procession and Service from the Minster to @nottinghamtrentuni Brackenhurst. Crops, livestock and horticulture are were blessed along the way. 🐄🐏🌾

The word ‘rogation’ comes from the Latin rogare, meaning to ask or beseech. Traditionally, Rogation services are performed three days before Ascension Day asking God for his blessing but also for his protection.

#didyouknow that our pepperpot towers are approximately the same height as 12 African Elephants standing on each other's backs! 🐘🐘🐘

The twin pepperpot spires were removed in 1805 after they were deemed unsafe but were placed back on top of the towers in 1880s by architect, Ewan Christian.
