Earlier in the year members of Southwell Community Archaeology undertook a 3D laser survey of Southwell Minster led and facilitated by Maptek – an international mining, technology, engineering, geology and surveying company.
By any standards it has been an extraordinary experience and provides the Minster Chapter and the wider community with an invaluable resource. Whilst many thousands of photographs will have been taken of the Minster to have an accurate digital record, which is GPS plotted, is quite a different and offers all sorts of opportunities.
On Thursday 7 November in The State Chamber of the Archbishop’s Palace, Professor Philip Dixon, the Cathedral Archaeologist, and Mark Williams from Maptek will set the history and archaeology of the Minster in context and describe the scanning process and survey results.
