In light of the Government guidance around non-essential contact, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York have issued advice that public worship is suspended until further notice. With that in mind, all concerts and events at Southwell Minster are cancelled until the suspension has been lifted.
Nick Fletcher is one of the country’s leading composer/performers for the classical guitar. He has over 80 compositions published by Canadian publisher ‘productions d’oz’.
Much of his music has received critical acclaim in both ‘classical guitar magazine’ and the ‘Guitar foundation of America magazine’ He has released 8 solo CD recordings, on various labels, and two with flautist John Hackett. Nick has released a CD of world music with master Chinese Erhu player Ling Peng. He has been interviewed and performed live on BBC Radio 3 ‘In tune’ programme and his music has been played many times on Classic FM radio.
His classical guitar performing work has taken him all over the UK and has played at many prestigious venues such as the ‘South Bank centre’, ‘Lakeside arts’, ‘Theatre Royal Nottingham’ and many more. As well has his classical guitar career Nick has been a prolific session musician as an electric and acoustic guitarist. He has played in many rock and jazz bands and has been teaching classical, jazz, rock and folk guitar for almost 40 years! Nick has released CD’s of his own compositions on the progressive rock label ‘esoteric antenna’.
Home-made sandwiches (£2) and hot and cold drinks (£1) are available from 11.45am in the south transept. The concert lasts approximately 45 minutes.
Admission is free with a retiring collection.
Southwell Minster’s popular lunchtime concerts take place at 12.15pm on many Fridays, with performers coming from around the country to perform a wide variety of instrumental and vocal music in the spectacular setting of the Cathedral Nave.
