10am to 4pm at Sacrista Prebend Retreat House
One of the great figures of Christian English mysticism lived down the road in Thurgarton in the 14th century. His writings were extremely influential, reaching well beyond monasteries into the lives of women and men trying to live their faith in the midst of relationships and responsibilities. Hilton is less well known than his contemporary Julian of Norwich, but his writings on the spiritual life have steadily inspired seekers and disciples over the centuries, including C.S. Lewis.
Through silent reflection and shared conversation we will explore Hilton’s teaching on prayer, contemplation, and experiencing the fire of God’s love and how they relate to our lives today.
Father Kevin Goodrich, O.P., is a friar under life vows in the Anglican Order of Preachers (Dominicans). His spiritual devotion to and academic research on Hilton have brought him across the pond from North America to Southwell and Thurgarton on many occasions. He is the author of the book, Mystic Bonfires: Walter Hilton and the Development of Practical Spiritual Theology.
