Music in the State Chamber 50th Anniversary Concert

Join us for the first concert of this year’s Music in the State Chamber series!

This year marks 50 years of Music in the State Chamber; the first ever concert (then called ‘Music in the Crossing’) took place on 16 May 1976, when the Southwell Singers gave a concert under the Minster’s central tower.

We are delighted to welcome Southwell Chamber Choir to give the 50th anniversary concert. Founded in 2024, they are a group of thirty experienced singers, who give three concerts a year. Recent programmes have included explorations of English folksong and Marian polyphony, as well as a programme of the music of Vaughan Williams.
For this concert, they will perform settings of the metaphysical poetry of John Donne and George Herbert, including Hubert Parry’s late masterpiece, the ‘Songs of Farewell’.

To mark the 50th anniversary, this concert takes place in the Quire of the Minster. Join us both for the concert, and for a glass of fizz afterwards, to help us celebrate 50 years of Music in the State Chamber.

Free admission with a retiring collection for Southwell Minster Choir Association.
