Dr Henry Parkes, Associate Professor, Department of Music, University of Nottingham.
Thursday 4 November 2021, 2-3.30pm (NEW DATE)
Dr Parkes researches the music and musical cultures of Western Christianity, with a particular emphasis on Gregorian chant. In this afternoon workshop he will explain how the Chapter House helped to sustain practices of worship and music in medieval Southwell.
This fascinating interactive workshop will take place in the Chapter House and will include a mini-enactment of chapter liturgy according to medieval customs, a discussion of the musical graffiti and their purpose, and a chance to test out the Chapter House acoustics as Dr Parkes guides us in singing a piece of medieval chant.
