Southwell Minster announces that the Revd Canon Dr Richard Frith will be leaving his post as Canon Precentor this summer, following his appointment as Vicar of Doncaster Minster in the Diocese of Sheffield.
His appointment is a significant one within the diocese, leading a historic civic church with a strong musical tradition and a growing role in the life of Doncaster.
Since joining Southwell Minster, Canon Richard has served with great dedication, bringing wisdom, pastoral care and deep liturgical and musical insight to the life of the Cathedral. His contribution to worship, the choir and the rhythm of our prayer is widely valued by us all.
The Interim Dean, The Revd Canon Dr Neil Evans, says:
“This is a moment of mixed emotions for us. We are deeply sad to be losing such an excellent Precentor, and I have personally cherished Richrd’s support. Yet we are delighted for him as he takes up a role that is so well matched to his gifts and calling. We send our warmest congratulations and assure him of our prayers.”
Canon Richard will depart for Doncaster in early June. Further details about the arrangements for his farewell will be shared in the coming weeks.
Dean-Designate Stephen is treating the appointment of a new Canon Precentor as a high priority and is already in conversation with Interim Dean Neil regarding this.
