After the summer we have just experienced there can’t be many who still insist that the climate isn’t changing, and quite a lot are convinced that climate change threatens disaster, that it is due to humans’ activities, and that we need to act if we are to minimise the consequences. In November 2025, the National Emergency Briefing brought together leading experts to present the latest evidence on the climate and nature crisis to politicians and other influential people in Westminster. It highlighted the severe ways in which food security, health, the economy, and national security are all under threat. On the simple democratic principle: that people should be trusted with full transparency about major risks that affect their lives, the organisers, who include broadcaster Chris Packham and Professor Mike Berners-Lee, have produced a fifty-minute film summarising the 2025 Briefing.
Under name of The People’s Emergency Briefing, this has been made freely available for screening in as many locations as possible. The fifty-minute film has already been shown at more than 2,000 UK locations to more than 100,000 people, but there cannot be too much exposure to it, or to opportunities to discuss the implications of what it shares. The driving principle is that everyone should have the opportunity to know more about what is happening to our world.
With that in mind, Churches Together in Southwell have arranged a screening followed by discussion and light refreshments in Holy Trinity Church from 6.30pm on 14 October. A trailer can be viewed below.
