There are some exciting changes afoot in the 13th Century Chapter House as part of a conservation project. Conservation work is well on the way by a team of experts to improve access, climate control and lighting. Currently, delicate carvings are covered to protect them while the floor slabs are lifted (for the first time since Ewan Christian’s big renovation in 1880), numbered and cleaned, piece by piece, ready to be replaced at a later date. The project archaeologist and contractor recently led hard hat tours of the site so that members of the public could see for themselves the project underway. Further opportunities to view the works in progress and speak to the team are planned and will be posted here and on our website.

A huge thank you to The National Lottery Heritage Fund and players for help making this happen.
