In this course, we will be exploring the magnificent and historic Chapter House and the picturesque Archbishop’s Palace Gardens using the brand-new ‘Octagon’ as a teaching space. We will be exploring a variety of different mediums on the go and from life using the Leaves of Southwell. The work produced will be made into collaborative artwork for display in Southwell Minster. Your artwork and sketchbook will be yours to take away after this workshop. This workshop is suitable for all levels – no previous experience is needed. The Minster’s Chapter House and its lifelike car The Minster’s Chapter House and its lifelike carvings of nature has inspired visitors since its construction over 700 years ago, and now @Carnillandcompany have created a scent which perfectly compliments this special place. Their Chapter House range evokes the scent of green oak, ancient woodland and the secrets of heaven and earth which fill this beautiful and hallowed meeting place. Wondrous carvings of plants, animals, and mythical creatures such as Green Men and Dragons can be found here. The ‘Leaves of Southwell’ have recently been the focus of a @heritagefunduk conservation project providing new interpretation materials and improvements to access, so the carvings can be enjoyed for another 700 years! We are delighted that this local company has taken inspiration from the Minster in creating this delicious new scent. You can find out more about our leaves carved in stone by visiting us and exploring the Chapter House. Morning session: 10am – 11.30am Afternoon session: 2pm – 3.30pm Inspired by the Green Men in the Chapter House, join local embroiderer and artist, Emma Frith for a creativity class. She will introduce you to dry felting and guide you through this project, inspired by the stone carvings in our Chapter House. You will cut shapes from wool felt and sculpt the face using nothing but wool fibres and a felting needle. Suitable for complete beginners, no experience necessary. Vegan Wool is available on request. Tickets cost £7.50 per person and booking is essential.
