Friday Lunchtime Concert: Rhapsody in Blue Centenary

Southwell Minster is presenting a very special Friday Lunchtime Recital on February 16th. In the week of the Centenary of the premiere of George Gershwin’s famous Rhapsody in Blue, an all-Gershwin recital will feature a performance of the famous ‘jazz-concerto’ on two pianos.

The recital will start with Gershwin songs, including such famous numbers as ‘Summertime’, ‘I Got Rhythm’ and ‘They Can’t Take That Away From Me’, sung by Lauren Osmond and Guy Turner, with Minster organist Jonny Allsopp at the piano.

Then pianists Joseph Murfin and Charles Tebbs will perform ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ in the two piano version, with Joseph playing the virtuosic solo piano part, and Charles the part original played by the orchestra.

Admission to this concert, which lasts approximately 45 minutes, is FREE. There is a retiring collection after the concert, proceeds of which go towards the Minster’s Milo Chorister Fund which helps support the Cathedral Chorister Programme. Please pick up a free programme upon your arrival. The concert will be preceded by tea, coffee and biscuits – available from 1pm onwards.
