The enduring appeal of Fauré’s Requiem lies in the composer’s wondrous gift for melody and his decision to create a work which provides comfort and solace rather than depicting death and destruction.
This sublime masterpiece is perfectly suited to the gorgeous surroundings of Southwell Minster. Alongside the Fauré will be Janáček’s striking setting of the Lord’s Prayer, Marcel Grandjany’s lovely Aria in the Classic Style, and Leonard Bernstein’s jazzy Chichester Psalms. With the choir accompanied by virtuosi on harp, percussion and organ, this promises to be a wonderfully atmospheric evening.
