Portraits from an Artist in Isolation is the culmination of 18 months’ work by artist Sarah Flanagan MA. Undertaken as a tribute to all the key-workers who have protected us all through the pandemic, this exhibition will launch on 23 March 2022, National Reflection Day, marking the second anniversary since the first lockdown in 2020.

Consisting of 49 paintings showing each key-worker in full PPE.

Discover more about the artist, Sarah Flanagan.

“This has been very emotional for me to see (willing) participants send me their photographs, how the PPE obscures their faces as they attempt to protects both themselves and the person they are dealing with from the virus. I have painted them in a literal, contemporary way echoing the illustrative field of the cartoon and comic which so often contain our accepted interpretation of superheroes, these people are the true heroes.” – Sarah Flanagan

“Sarah’s work is absolutely beautiful and it was an honour to be asked to take part and represent our policing colleagues. This has been such a strange time which will be going down in history, so its poignant to have it documented in art form” – PC Deborah Bakin Nottinghamshire Police.

We do hope you can join us and take time to reflect on the dedication and sacrifice of these frontline heroes.
