Sunday Lunchtime Concert: The Suffolk Singers

Suffolk Singers is a community choir of 30 – 35 voices based in Otley, Suffolk. We have a wide repertoire of music, mostly sacred and a cappella. We are fortunate to have as our Musical Director Claire Weston, former Principal Soprano of the English National Opera and currently Head of Singing at Woodbridge School in Suffolk.

In recent years, they have been able to sing in a number of prestigious venues, including the cathedrals of Norwich, St Edmundsbury and Ely in the UK, and Ghent and Ypres whilst on tour in Belgium where they were also honoured to sing at the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres. In 2014, Suffolk Singers performed in the final of the Choir of the Year competition at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.

Suffolk Singers are delighted to have the opportunity to sing at Southwell Minster. They will be performing a varied programme of both ancient and modern pieces for this Sunday luncthtime concert, including Morning Star by Arvo Pärt, Ave Verum Corpus by William Byrd and Beati Quorum Via by C.V Stamford plus a range of other pieces by Moses Hogan, Mendelssohn, Tavener, Stainer, Weelkes and Purcell.

Admission to this concert, which lasts approximately 50 minutes, is FREE. There will be a retiring collection, the proceeds of which help to fund the Minster’s Organ Scholarship. Please pick up a free programme upon your arrival.
