‘Where Heaven and Nature Sing’ – Words and Music

Inspiring poetry and music performed in the beautiful State Chamber.

Join us for words, music and refreshments and find out how this line from a Christmas Hymn became the strap line for the 140th anniversary celebration of the diocese.

The afternoon promises to share a taste of the people, places and things which are all part of the history. From Gerard Manel Hopkins’ serious reflections on Heaven and on Nature to contemporary poems written for the event. Poetry and prose will move and amuse, as will a whole range of songs, from Korngold to Coward, Stanford to Flanders and Swann.

The Dean and local poet Mary West make this a very Southwell Event.

Other readers include Pat Ashworth, the Nottingham playwright and Church Times journalist, along with Tony Barker, Dorothy and Keith Mountford.

Music is provided by Minster musicians: tenor, Matthew Spillett accompanied by Paul Provost (piano)

Tickets, priced £10, are available by clicking here or from The Cathedral Shop (in person or 01636 812933)
