A Sacrista Prebend Retreat House Event

Praying with R S Thomas, Priest-poet

Saturday 19th February 2022
10am to 4pm at Sacrista Prebend Retreat House

Some of the poems of the Welsh priest-poet R S Thomas can be a valuable resource for prayer and meditation. Through well-chosen words and resonating images Thomas explored testing aspects of faith in God, especially awareness of seeming absence as well as the mystery of presence through his contemplation of creation, scripture and his human experience.

This quiet day will provide an opportunity to reflect on some of his most accessible poems that can nourish personal faith. There will be some guided introductions, plenty of personal silence and space to reflect and meditate, an opportunity to share insights, so that participants can explore the poems prayerfully and relate them to their own spiritual journeying.

The day will be led and facilitated by Revd Graham Pigott, an Anglican priest, now living in Derbyshire, having retired from parish ministry near Nottingham. He leads occasional quiet days and offers spiritual accompaniment and supervision of accompaniment. He enjoys hill walking, reading theology and spirituality, visiting art galleries, and explores painting and printmaking.
