Independent Safeguarding Review - Make your voice heard

Help Southwell Minster review its safeguarding practices to do all we can to keep people safe.

Southwell Minster and the Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham are inviting members of the public to have their say in a major safeguarding review. Independent specialists INEQE Safeguarding Group are conducting audits across the Church of England to make sure churches and cathedrals are doing all they can to keep people safe.

The participation of everyone who is part of the life of the Minster is critically important, and you can help by taking part in an anonymous and confidential survey.

The survey is now live and will close at 11.30pm on Wednesday 5th November 2025.

If you would like to take part in a focus group, you can contact the Audit Team.

Dean of Southwell’s message about the INEQE Safeguarding Review

How can I get my voice heard?

A key part of this audit is hearing the voices of all those who worship and work across the Diocese and Cathedral including employees, clergy, parishioners, worshippers, volunteers and supporters. INEQE really value your opinion, and everyone is welcome to share their views and experiences through the survey.

The Reverend Dr Neil Evans, interim Dean of Southwell Minster, says:

The Revd Canon Dr Neil Evans‘The Cathedral welcomes this Audit of our safeguarding practice and the opportunity for independent scrutiny and learning. This will allow us to reflect on the journey we have taken over the past few years as we have sought to embed best practice and a culture of safeguarding, as well as identify what’s working well and where we can strengthen safeguarding within the Cathedral. The audit is not there to catch us out, but rather to ensure that we are not only compliant, but more importantly doing all we can to protect and support children, young people and vulnerable adults. Safeguarding is an ongoing process and this Audit is just one step in ensuring the safety and well-being of all members of the church community.’

The participation of everyone who is part of the life of the Cathedral is critically important, and you can help by taking part in an anonymous and confidential survey.
