On Saturday 17 June, the Friends held a Special General Meeting at which a new constitution was adopted. This modernises and updates the charity’s governance, whilst retaining the foundation principles of 1947.  The main difference the Minster family may notice is that the Dean of Southwell is no longer Chairman, thereby avoiding any possible conflict of interest in the Dean requesting funding from a body which s/he chairs.  Many other cathedrals have a similar arrangement and the Dean/Chapter representative is invited to attend meetings ex officio.  Charlie Leggatt was elected Chairman under the new provisions.
