Informal Worship

Worship for Young People

Children and young people are welcome at all of our services but we do provide for their needs through the Junior Church.

Junior Church at Southwell Minster happens every week throughout the year during the Family Eucharist service. We meet in the Pilgrim's Chapel for fun and themed activities, before joining the rest of the congregation in time for communion. Children of all ages are very welcome.

If you are interested in helping with Junior Church or would like to find out more information about it, please contact Mrs Karen Edginton by calling 01636 815836 or emailing

House Groups

Southwell Minster supports an annual series of House Groups. They provide an informal opportunity for members of the Minster community to get to know each other, learn and explore together questions about life and faith, grow spiritually, and feed through ideas and suggestions relating to Minster activities.

Each series runs from September to February, with a break for Christmas. Some seventy people meet fortnightly in groups of seven to ten, in people’s homes and elsewhere. Study guides are produced locally. Information about forthcoming series’ and opportunities to sign up are made available in August.

The 2019/20 theme is 'The Word...'.

All are very welcome to join a group at any time. If you would like to join, or would like further information, please contact Vicky Thorpe by ringing 01636 813222 or emailing, or Hugh Middleton by ringing 01623 411496 or emailing

Prayer Groups

These groups are where people come together to pray for clergy, individual needs and the wider diocese and world. Everyone is welcome, whether they prefer to pray silently or out loud.

Currently there are two prayer groups:

  • A contemplative prayer group on a Monday evening at Sacrista Prebend. For details, please contact Susan Moses by phoning Sacrista Prebend on 01636 816833
  • A silence and meditation group in the Pilgrims Chapel at 12.30pm on Thursday. If you are interested in this group, please email Kate Sartain at
