While the Chapter House looks much the same on the outside, lots is happening inside – although it will still be a while before visitors will be able to come and see it again. Richard and the team have started the epic 1,500 piece ‘jigsaw’ this week as they replace the original stone floor. Each piece was painstakingly lifted, numbered, marked on a plan, cleaned, cut to the right height and stored – all by hand – while essential work took place below ground. Here you can see the margin stones have been laid to the perimeter of each triangled section which is then infilled with the blocks. Truly a labour of love!
