Discovery Day

A chance to unwrap the treasures of Southwell Minster

A wide variety of workshops, talks, tours and activities are being offered at Southwell Minster’s Adult Learning Discovery Day on Tuesday 10th September 2019.

The popular annual event is an opportunity to unwrap the life and treasures of the cathedral on subjects covering history, art, crafts and music. There will also be live organ music and home-made cakes and drinks. Three choices are available between 9.30am and 3.30pm on a first come, first served basis so early booking is recommended.

“A lovely informative day, wonderful volunteers and staff available to help”

This year visitors can choose from 14 different options, including: ‘In Search of Medieval Graffiti tour’ and ‘Roman Finds’; Gardens & Grounds; Historic Library; At Home with the Dean; Felting with Nature; and Poetry Spotlight. Please see the booking form for the full itinerary.

In the opening talk: Painting the Christian Message,  Minster fundraiser, Charlie Leggatt, will present highlights from the old master paintings at Dulwich Picture Gallery.

Minster Education Officer, Diana Ives says:

“The annual Discovery Day is a chance to see the Minster in a whole new light. It's wonderful how staff and volunteers come together for this enjoyable, informal day of learning for adults and I'm so grateful to the whole team for helping to put together such a fantastic programme for 2019.”

The cost is £15, payable on the day or in advance by cash/cheque made payable to ‘Southwell Cathedral Chapter.’
